Having studied science, art and philosophy I am fascinated by what is deemed “rational”, how context is everything and how conflict is something to be interrogated. Paint allows me to think, to collage images and feelings but most importantly to create ambiguity, a liminal space between abstraction and figuration where a psychological landscape can be explored.

In the paintings I question how reality is constructed and perceived. I was born into trauma: my childhood home was full of anger and pain. Within psychoanalytic theory a person’s identity fragments in an attempt to survive the onslaught of trauma. The fragments that result offer new perspectives on the world. In my work I question the norms of western society: the pain of childhood, models of consent and the intimacy of sexual power are all themes I continue to examine.

After doing a Physics degree in my early life I went on to have a 15 year career within the medical sector. In 2017 I decided to follow my passion for creativity. I recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art which proceeded a BA in Craft specialising in Glass.
